Smiles all round at Oxnead Hall

Oxnead Hall, nestled in the idyllic North Norfolk countryside just outside Norwich, was the venue of choice for Andrew and Shane Didwell’s wedding. I had the opportunity to be their wedding photographer in October 2019. It was quite simply a delight from start to finish.

The First Meet Up

The happy couple first contacted me by email and we arranged to catch up properly at the Dunston Hall EDP Wedding Show. I massively enjoy the first meet up. The time when both parties make their first impressions. And when I see the excitement as they describe what they’re looking for in setting, style and in their wedding photographer.

I knew it would be a pleasure to work with them. We talked for ages about what they were looking for on the day. So, I was over the moon when they contacted me a few weeks later to ask that I be their wedding photographer.

Having a connection with the people that you will be photographing makes the whole experience that extra bit special. It massively helps to visualise how the big day will unfold as well as how to coax the shyer characters to feel relaxed as they take the centre stage.

Andrew and Shane opted for my all-day package for the celebrations at Oxnead Hall which included a pre-wedding photoshoot. The day would begin with lead up photos of the wedding preparations, the ceremony, followed by the drinks reception, the speeches, cutting of the cake, the first dance and the evening celebrations.

The Pre-wedding Photoshoot

Pre-wedding photoshoots are a massive part of learning and understanding what approach is needed for the wedding itself. In this case Andrew and Shane had stated that the wedding would have an Industrial feel. So, I used their concept for the pre-shoot. Opting for a dis-used factory as the setting and as the beginning of the wedding journey. The factory, as you can see below, is a skeleton shell of metal struts and it made a lovely backdrop for the smiling pair.

Closer to the main event, Shane contacted me asking if there was the possibility of being available the evening before the wedding for a black tie and dress evening which also took place at Oxnead Hall. Dressed in their forest green velvet suits and accompanied by their 17 bridesmaids, the bubbles flowed, and the fun began.

The Big Day at Oxnead Hall

For larger weddings I always use a second photographer to ensure no moments are missed from the day. In this case my right-hand man was Andy Blundred, an experienced photographer who I know and trust to oversee the details that mustn’t be missed while I’m spending extra time with the couple. An added pleasure was to work with a friend, Ben Race from Race Wedding Videography who Andrew and Shane had also hired for the day.

I will let the photos speak for themselves. They tell the story of the day much better than the written word. There was love and laughter in abundance! The experience of being part of the wedding from that first meet-up to the happiness of the day is simply why I love my job!

Massive congrats and much appreciation for letting Simon Watson Photography be part of it all!
